Objectives

The main reason partners wanted to implement the project was growing disengagement of young people, which we observed in our countries and local communities. The same observations were made by researchers, which call it a major issue facing contemporary democracies. Traditional forms of participation are not attractive and do not seem to be working to young Europeans, which results in underrepresentation of issues of young people in political and social agendas in Europe. At the same time, we could observe growing engagement of youth in global movements against the climate change, and in many national actions, which have forms unlike those being part of the traditional concept of democracy. The aim of the project, with its main activity being a seminar, was to explore and discuss the reasons why young people got disattached from societies, what possibilities there are for them to participate in democratic processes and how can they bring their problems to political agendas on local, national and European levels. We explored also what are the new ways of social engagement, which are interesting and engaging to young people. To ensure wider scope of experience and different perspectives we engaged partner organisations with very different backgrounds, working with different groups of young people, including refugees, migrant, and youth with disabilities.
