Objectives

The topic of gender equality has been a popular area of discussion recently. In every project we organise, we make every effort to ensure that there is a gender balance not only among the participants, but also in all the activities they take part in during their mobility. The idea behind the "Youth 4 Gender Equality" project comes from the volunteers gathered around the YHI Organisation. During one of the organized meetings, they discussed the issue of gender equality not only in the sphere of career but also social life. Our volunteers are young people aged 18-25. That's why we decided that a topic that is so controversial and so complex is an ideal material to explore. We decided, together with the volunteers, to look into the correctness of the gender equality problem they reported from the point of view of research. On the European Commission's website we found the results of a 2017 study which showed that women still receive on average 16% less pay than men per hour worked. Our volunteers have also noticed in their international careers that women are more difficult to get promoted and are under-represented in management, decision-making and corporate boards, which is also confirmed by the survey. In our conversations, we also went beyond the area of job interviews, addressing the still deeply rooted gender stereotypes - women are still attributed a disproportionate share of the burden of domestic work and childcare, while men support the family. Together with our partners, we have engaged in all activities from the very beginning of the idea of the project. This is our joint work. Each of us is a unit that binds the design structure together. We want to carry out this project because we believe that the topic is very important and thanks to our actions and social campaign we can contribute to greater social change not only in Poland but also in Europe. The main motivation for the youth exchange is to increase participants' understanding of gender issues and to raise their awareness of the problems faced by women in their careers. The main mission of the project is to disseminate the message that gender equality is a result of human rights and not a struggle of women. Through interactive lectures, discussions, debates, simulations and theatrical activities, the participants will work to create a series of short films on gender issues in order to raise young people's awareness of the problem. When we educate young people, we educate the nation because we firmly believe that young people have a positive impact on changes in society. The main objectives of the project, which we have defined together with the participants, are : - raise awareness of the Erasmus + programme among participants and encourage them to take part in subsequent youth mobility activities - to raise public awareness of gender equality issues through an information campaign run by participants during the youth exchange - to raise young people's awareness of the cultural and historical differences in women's and men's lives over the years - exploring the ideology of equality - its correct understanding - to learn about the stereotypes that have developed in our countries and to find rational and common-sense arguments to overcome them - learning about the history of our countries and the facts that shaped the roles of women and men in society - getting to know the experts'; opinions on the gender differences in some occupations and getting to know the market segments where women and men are most discriminated - learning the postulates of feminism and developing our own opinion on this subject - getting to know the principles of savoir vivre and defining their existence in the modern world - the active participation of young people In achieving these objectives, we believe that youth exchanges will contribute to the creation of equal gender societies, raise awareness among communities on gender issues and, in addition, strengthen the gender position of young people in the participating countries.
