Objectives

The concept of the project "FILL Film Industry Leaders Lab" was created as a result of discussions between young people who associate their future with the film industry. The initiative group consists of young filmmakers who met during the CINEMAFORUM Short Film Festival, devoted to the promotion of short films (a short film is usually the first stage in the career of beginning filmmakers). Every year CINEMAFORUM brings together a large group of young people from various European countries. During the event, workshops, training and international youth exchanges are organized. In 2019, young people from the initiative group took part in the international debate organized by the FILMFORUM Association as part of CINEMAFORUM. It became an impulse for further discussions, in which young people defined problems that hinder them from developing international creative cooperation, popularizing their own film achievements and realizing international professional aspirations. During informal meetings, young people defined the problems related to the international production and distribution of films and the exchange of cultural products between individual European countries. The knowledge of young filmmakers on this subject is limited, as film academies have great difficulty in offering these types of courses and subjects due to the lack of qualified teaching staff. Hence, an educational task of this type must be fulfilled by a different structure, e.g. a program of peer non-formal education and meetings of young filmmakers from various European countries, the purpose of which will be to exchange knowledge and search for modern solutions allowing them to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of functioning in Europe. the modern film market. When planning their venture, young people decided to focus on searching for modern and pioneering methods of film production. It is obvious that in the global dimension the leading cinematography is the American studio film industry, which absolutely dominates the global audiovisual market and generates the highest profits. The American film production system - contrary to stereotypical beliefs - is, however, a very conservative and not very innovative mechanism, based on well-established patterns and patterns of operation, not without coincidence resembling large-scale production, which is not necessarily reflected and applied in the conditions that characterize the European audiovisual sector. An alternative to the American industry and a gateway to the international development of young European cinema may be niche models of operation, conducive to creative film production, in particular those implemented by young, debuting filmmakers, willing to implement innovative solutions and open to international cooperation. The key concept for this approach to the tasks and competences of film producers is the function of the so-called "Creative producer", whose task is not only to develop a financing and implementation strategy for the future film, but also to actively participate in the development of the artistic vision of the film and the concept of its sale, often built at the stage of starting work on the script. For young people participating in the project, actively interested in professional development in the audiovisual sector, participation in an international exchange consisting in a joint search for innovative solutions in the field of film production, is a unique opportunity for professional development and gaining valuable knowledge and specific practical experiences necessary in planning their own creative activity, creating better career prospects and greater intercultural awareness, which will ultimately enable efficient movement on the international film market and allow for well-thought-out cooperation with foreign partners - thus in line with the objectives of the educational mobility of the ERASMUS + Program. The task of the project was to examine the potential of European cooperation in the film production sector through a series of activities of a research nature (research of existing solutions in partner countries), educational (exchange of information between participants, consultations with experts) and conceptual (creative search for pioneering solutions and opportunities for cooperation) ). The program planned as part of the project allowed young audiovisual creators to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of the functioning of the international film production market in partner countries and will create opportunities to strengthen the export potential of young European cinema. Non-formal education of young authors, distributors and producers allowed them to acquire knowledge about the principles of the international film circulation, channels to reach distribution systems in individual countries and production criteria determining the potential commercial success of a film in international circulation.
