Objectives

We note that in Poland and in the world many young people suffering from psoriasis or skin diseases have big problems in assimilating with their surroundings. Young people are often discriminated against because of their appearance in school and peer environments. International research on skin diseases often raises issues of cultural background that also shapes the attitude of healthy people to the sick and affects the image of oneself as a person affected by the disease. Through international exchange, we can easily define universal and cultural causes and effects of discrimination against the sick. In order to thoroughly understand the concept of discrimination and social exclusion, the dialogue between citizens of different countries and cultures will increase intercultural awareness and highlight common human features that are not a creation of culture and nature. After a preliminary discussion of this problem with our potential partners, we would like to organize a youth exchange that would give 30 young people from 6 European countries the opportunity to share their experiences and thoughts, discuss ideas and inspire each other in this field. We would like to educate participants on various topics related to skin diseases, in particular psoriasis - about treatment methods (conventional and unconventional), about discrimination and social exclusion as well as other psychological aspects related to skin diseases. At one of the meetings, young people working on a daily basis in our foundation decided that it would be worth meeting this problem and starting to educate the society. Then a lot of ideas appeared how to do it? One of them was the creation of an educational project in the field of preventing discrimination of young people because of our diseases, skin problems and imperfections that each of us experienced. We decided that this topic does not only concern us Poles and most young people in Europe. After all, most of us have had or have skin problems such as acne, etc. Many times during youth exchanges in which our team members took part, there were discussions about problems and discrimination experienced by young people who have problems with skin diseases. Hence the idea to organize an international youth exchange. We would like to educate together with participants on various topics related to skin diseases, in particular psoriasis - treatment methods (conventional and unconventional), discrimination and social exclusion as well as other psychological aspects related to skin diseases. The goals of the project are: education of a group of young people from 6 countries on psoriasis and other skin diseases raising awareness of discrimination and social exclusion by skin diseases in local communities, partner countries and Europe defining the problem of discrimination and social exclusion of sick people raising awareness of the problem of low availability of prevention, alleviation and treatment of psoriasis sharing the idea of broadly understood tolerance and empathy towards patients inspiring our peers to take action to promote tolerance in their countries through the use of non-formal education Through the exchange, we will support the personal development of us and our peers in non-formal education, whose main purpose is learning through practice. Participants will not only improve their knowledge about the disease in their country and Europe, but will also have the opportunity to acquire new hard and soft skills.
