Objectives

The aim of the project CIVIL JOURNALIST - THE PROFESSION OF THE FUTURE was to work together on the development of tools, materials and solutions to help the organizers of non-formal education to educate young civic journalists using new media to conduct modern journalistic activities, in particular the e-learning module "Civic journalist guide" and compatible with it the "Civic journalist website" e-learning platform. The tools were created on the basis of cooperation and exchange of experiences between our organizations. The project focused on non-formal education, improving the quality of work with young people in the field of shaping citizenship and overcoming the difficulties in this area that arose in connection with the prevailing COVID19 pandemic. We also wanted young people and people interested in the subject to develop interpersonal skills through travel and international workshops. The participants learned English and public speaking, which was an additional advantage of our project. Working in an intercultural team is developing and allowed to increase the competences of the project participants.

Background

We applied for the project because we noticed a significant drop in the quality of information provided by the media. Moreover, we also noticed that young people insufficiently participate in social life, focusing on the virtual sphere. The combination of these thoughts was the vision of the project that will enable young people, but also other people interested in the topic, access to journalistic tools and platform. Therefore, the project responded to the needs related to the reliability of the media, access to information, verification of content published on the Internet, and increasing the activity of young people in public life. The need for social activation was noticeable before the start of the project activities, which is why we applied for the possibility of its implementation. It is worth noting that the new media also gave great opportunities to journalism enthusiasts, who could create information space in their villages or cities on their own, thanks to our project, and more specifically the website. Despite the fact that in the 21st century you can find a lot on the Internet, we have noticed a lack of similar initiatives that would aggregate all the information needed to start a journalistic activity in one space.
