Objectives

With this project, the AEB hoped to internationalise its work giving its teachers the opportunity to learn from other realities in Europe establishing advantageous partnerships with different European organisations. In this context, we have already had the opportunity to participate in different European Erasmus projects as partners, mostly with students. With this project we wanted to give the school's staff the chance to get involved in these opportunities. This application was written taking into consideration the effective group of teachers of the School; they came from different subject areas and all levels of teaching. Most of them were part of the coordinating structures and evaluation of the school. The coordination was made by the Clube Europeu of the school which included teachers deeply involved in other Erasmus+ projects and who sought to increase this international spirit, both in our students but also in our teachers spirit. Because they have already had experiences in European projects, they were more motivated to bring Europe closer. We wanted to develop skills and learn about new strategies that may help teachers fight problems related to early school leaving, old fashioned methods and lack of innovative methodologies.

Background

This School has had experience in teaching young people (from the age 3 to 20) and finds innovation a tool to motivate the. We believe that teacher training with new methodologies and approaches will contribute to better success. Today's students are more demanding and teachers must be better prepared to keep up with their needs. As part of Erasmus +, we have participated in different K1 and K2 projects. The students and teachers who have been involved in these projects have come to understand school under a different perspective, hence this growing desire to take a step forward and invest in training at European level. The school intends to internationalise teaching by giving teachers the chance to learn about what is being done in Europe in order to improve the learning process. The school has an action plan centred on collaborative work, the articulation of curricula and formative assessment, in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. thus, we have been working in coordination with the Teacher Training Centre, focusing on training in areas such as “Development of an Inclusive School”; “Flexibility and curricular integration”; “Active Learning Using ICT”; “Introduction to Programming and Robotics in Basic Education”; "The new technologies in the teaching / learning of Music"; "Articulation between pre-school and 1st grade of basic education"; "Form + Innovate = Include: form for inclusion"; "Differentiated Pedagogy for Curricular Flexibility and Universal Measures for Inclusive Education"; Leadership and team coordination in the school context: the role and importance of the leader". Our school is a reference school for blind people as well as with other eye diseases and we also have a multi-deficiency room where we work with other students’ problems that’s why we take the inclusion of students so seriously and we want to invest our efforts in appropriate methods to reach each student as he/she needs and deserves. Apart from that, we also host students from different parts of the world with different cultural backgrounds who need to be addressed differently according to their needs.
