Objectives

We would like to improve the knowledge and experience of our teachers in digital skills, practices and more innovative methodologies in order to provide, in the school, rich and innovative learning environments more suitable for a digital age, namely in project methodology in general, TEL (Tecnhology Ebhaced Learning), STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), and in this way, increase students’ digital skills, to combat demotivation, lack of interest and failure and to improve the quality of learning. Another aim was that this project could constitute an aid in the implementation of strategies towards school’s modernization and internationalization, promoting a work with students closer to that of other countries, promoting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship through projects with other European schools. Finally, increasing and deepening the shcool’s European Dimension is one of the goals of our Educational Project, so making the teaching staff more linguistically and culturally qualified in order to increase motivation for their involvement in new European projects was, obviously, another goal that intended to be achieved with the implementation of this project.

Background

We applied in order to achieve the golas of the school’s Educational Project regarding the most innovative teaching methodologies, to improve the quality of our students’ learning and thus to take another step towards the Iniciativa Nacional de Competências e.2030, Portugal CoDigital 2023.The school, whether due to its geographic location, the average age of its teachers or the lack of qualified teachers in these subjects (digital skills, robotics, programming) has been somewhat on the sidelines of this path. It was also intended to meet the objectives of the school’s European Develeopment Plan with regard to expand and to deep further the internationalization and European dimension of the school, as well as improving English skills of its teachers.
