Objectives

We intended to: decrease the risk factors for students dropping out of school; improve the marks between 14 and 17 values of the participants, in comparison to the students who did their training in Portugal; improve their grades in the technical component, as a reflection of the experiences had abroad; provide new experiences to the students, contacting with new cultures and lifestyles; develop soft skills that allow, at least 75% of the students, within 6 months after the end of the training, to be more open to new job offers / continue studies or create their own job; encourage the learning of foreign languages, especially English, as a global language in work communication; enable contact with different work methodologies, procedures, tools, software, knowledge for later analysis and sharing of good practices among peers and stakeholders. Regarding teachers, we intended to: provide job-shadowing activities to update the technical knowledge required in their teaching areas and for the development of professional aptitude projects; replicate and implement practices/methodologies collected in contact with foreign companies in their area.

Background

We applied to provide work-based learning by providing opportunities for students to experience work abroad. As for the teachers, we felt that the exchange of good practice and mutual learning gained abroad would contribute to enhancing their skills. We aimed to: improve certification rates at the end of the training cycle and employability 6 months after completion; enable teachers to confront their teaching strategies with those of the host country, identifying good practices, sharing them with the educational community and stakeholders; achieve or surpass the completion rates of Vocational Education at national level (85% success rate in each year and 70% completion rate, 50% employability); to certify the self-evaluation process based on a quality assurance model, EQAVET, and to obtain the seal of conformity; to promote partnerships with companies/institutions at national and international level that ensure, with quality, the FCT at local, regional and national level for all students, and at international level for a minimum of 10% of the 2nd and/or 3rd years of the vocational courses.
