Objectives

Associação Juventude de Vila Fonche has participated in several projects under the "Programa Erasmus+" either as a coordinating association and/or as a partner organization. In 2019, we participated in a bilateral youth exchange with one of our French partners, involving 12 local young people aged 14 and 15 years old. This bilateral project had the topics of "stereotypes" and "prejudices" and took place in both countries, the first youth exchange in Marseille (France) and the second in Arcos de Valdevez (Portugal). These two mobilities were developed between the 8th and 20th of July 2019. Our group of participants was made up of young people who attended and/or attend our Free Time Activity Center. After this youth exchange ended, this group of young people told us that they would like to organize and participate in a youth exchange that had the environment, and its preservation and, art as main themes. Some of the young people who were directly involved in the creation of this project have shown to be very concerned and aware of the environment and climate change. At only 14 and 15 years old, they were great workers for the student movement carried out by the students of the schools of Arcos de Valdevez, on May 24th, against climate change. This group of young people managed to convince and sensitize their peers and, together, they carried out a march from the Agrupamento de Escolas to the Municipality of Arcos de Valdevez, passing through the center of the town, where they personally delivered some proposals in for the environment, defined by the young people, to the mayor of our municipality. Those public demonstrations carried out by all young people, all over the world, clearly show that young people worldwide are very concerned about environmental issues and the future of future generations and planet Earth itself. Another major calamity that we face annually, not only in our region but also nationally and internationally, is forest fires that have destroyed ecosystems, largely due to global warming and various economic lobbies. This phenomenon is not unrelated to us, as we have witnessed significant destruction of our natural heritage, year after year. It is based on these concerns that the idea of the youth exchange "AmbientArte" emerged, a project in which the environment and the arts were in harmony and walked side by side. This activity, under the Erasmus+ Programme, brought together young people, between 14 and 17 years old, from 3 European countries, where they reflected on the role that each one can play in favor of a sustainable environmental future, as well as, how their daily habits influence the environment. Art is an excellent tool for expression and awareness and is also an important means of transmitting messages. Art stimulates critical thinking and creativity in young people, ultimately having the power to shape and change attitudes and thoughts. The objectives to be achieved with the realization of "AmbientArte" were: - Raise awareness among young people to adopt a sustainable lifestyle that respects the environment; -Empower young people with useful tools that they can use daily for the benefit of the environment, such as reforestation, recycling, and reuse; -Empower young people with artistic tools that they can use as a form of expression, sharing, and participation; -Sharing of measures and good environmental practices used in each of the countries involved; -Promote responsible and sustainable use and consumption through the use of recyclable materials; -Promote in participants self-knowledge, self-confidence, communication and critical thinking skills, self-reflection, creativity, flexibility, etc.; -Provide young participants with the opportunity to participate in activities that allow them to step out of their comfort zone; -Promote a space for conviviality and sharing of traditions, capable of providing an understanding of the cultural diversity present; -Promote moments of sharing, conviviality, and learning that enrich the work of the participating organizations. One of the main objectives of the "Erasmus+ Programme" is related to "...the development of social capital among young people, the empowerment of young people and their ability to actively participate in society..."(Erasmus+ - Programme Guide, 2019:5). For this purpose, we applied for KA1, of the "Erasmus+" Programme, since it is the guideline that promotes the mobility of young people, allowing them to improve the level of skills, enable them to become active citizens, promote interculturality, social inclusion and solidarity.
