Despite attempts to decentralise the territory, the asymmetries between the coast and the interior of Portugal continue to be evident. This is a common reality throughout Europe, with asymmetries not only within each country, but also on the European map itself. This project arose with the aim of confronting the problem of social exclusion of young people who live in underdeveloped geographical areas due to their social isolation and the lack of multicultural opportunities. By solving these problems we contribute to -A minimising and combating desertification and the failure of young age groups to settle in underdeveloped regions; -Promoting equal access to the same opportunities; -remedying stagnation and possible cultural backwardness. To this end, we proposed a social exchange between young people in the context of nature and sport, with the aim of encouraging healthy lifestyles, favouring a means of socialisation, cooperation and interaction of excellence. The purpose of this exchange was also to enhance the potential of the region, while increasing social value among peers, producing social, ecological, environmental and cultural benefits for the participants. The enhancement of the region allowed to promote endogenous resources and the sense of belonging among stakeholders and to improve the understanding and awareness of the participants, promoting more positive and attractive representations of the region. At the same time, by investing in intercultural dialogue, we created opportunities to open up to underdeveloped areas, namely the hinterland, promoting contact with other cultures and concrete and positive experiences of Europeanisation, which allowed all those involved to start or continue the construction of their European and multicultural citizenship, with common concerns and aspirations. NEEDS a) To create positive impacts on the prevention of isolation and lack of multicultural opportunities; b) To invest in innovative and differentiated intervention in youth training; c) To create opportunities for the empowerment of young people and organisations through nature and sport; d) To share and develop good European practices on non-formal education (NFE) that promote new opportunities. OBJECTIVES a) To promote healthy lifestyles and habits, thus increasing the quality of life and stimulating the practice of physical activity, resulting in added value in terms of well-being; b) Create citizenship processes to diminish and avoid the isolation of young people, overcoming geographical barriers with regard to intercultural dialogue by promoting contact between peers; c) To develop an exchange of good environmental and sporting practices, methodologies in youth action and social values; d) To produce non-formal and informal peer learning outcomes and the acquisition of competences through activities based on non-formal education; e) Promote the development of social and cultural competencies in young people in Europe that will enable them to collaborate in the future in multicultural educational environments; f) Promote intercultural dialogue through the exchange of experiences with other young Europeans; g) To reinforce the international scope of the organisations, consolidating partnerships and boosting new initiatives. REASONS a) To solve the problem and needs detected; b) To achieve the proposed objectives; c) To join the Erasmus+ movement; d) To become a national and international reference in the development of social, youth and sport projects; e) To follow up on the projects already implemented. ERASMUS+ AND KA1 Our project met the specific objective of the Erasmus+ Programme in the youth sector, which is to improve the level of key competences of young people, including the disadvantaged, and to promote participation in European democratic life, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity, namely by creating more opportunities for mobility and by strengthening the link between the youth sector and the world of work. By investing in and stimulating youth mobility through our exchanges, we enabled young people from different countries and different cultures to construct and share meaningful experiences. We intended to empower young people and people in charge of organisations so that, through the improvement of youth intervention methods, they could trigger processes of change and collaborate towards the 2020 Strategy and the 2030 Agenda, namely in reducing desertification in rural areas, school failure and dropout, and social exclusion. The development of personal, social and professional competences in young people resulted in the modernisation, dynamism and professionalism of the organisations themselves, which were able to integrate innovative and quality methodologies, new partnerships and future concerted actions focused on empowerment, social inclusion and the creation of opportunities for young people.
