Objectives

The Mediation 4 integration project is a project whose main theme is inserted in intercultural mediation as a bridge of communication, inclusion and integration for working with ethnic / cultural minorities. In this sense, we recognize the importance of developing skills of coexistence, understanding and knowledge of different cultures for intercultural communication of proximity, cooperation and collaboration for the discovery of common interests, learning to celebrate the difference instead of penalizing it. The project will be developed in Portugal, in the Vila Real region, and will count with the participation of 36 young people and youth technicians between 18 and 30 years old, from 6 countries: Portugal, Norway, Romania, Italy, Poland and Spain, between 2 on August 9, 2020. The activities developed throughout the project will have as main focus the work in the context of welcoming and accepting cultural diversity, respect for difference, equality, teamwork, active participation, communication and empathy. The entire development of the project will be based on a model of non-formal education, providing the experience of experiences and learning opportunities, which are very important for the personal and social development of the participants for an exercise of citizenship that is more integrative of cultural diversity. The result generated at the end of the project is intended to be the creation of a guide of technical tools and good practices for the training of local actors and the empowerment of all recipients. This guide will be prepared by all participants, through group work, proposed throughout the exchange. This resource will serve to foster intercultural, constructive and transforming relationships, with potential in terms of social change, being subsequently disseminated to all project partners. The prepared guide will be used to disseminate the results of the project to all partners and the Erasmus + program. At the end of the exchange, participants will be the main transmitters of their personal changes to their work organizations, taking on the responsibility of, as leaders, sharing the main learnings and strategies for welcoming and integrating different cultures, intercultural dialogue and positive conflict management. Throughout the project, participants should learn to value their personal and social skills, such as the preparation of research, presentation of a project or lecture and the application of communication strategies, empathy. We also highlight the development of problem solving skills, (co) accountability, autonomy and participation, as well as skills of listening and dealing with feelings and emotions, enhancing the development of participants in personal, professional aspects and social. We believe that the greatest impact on learning takes place in the space for dialogue and empathy that is created between all participants, opening up to listening to the other and welcoming their ideas and points of view, listening to them at a level of attention and presence, competence important to the exercise of active and integrating European citizenship. Throughout the exchange experience, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the European Union's programs and strategies, being encouraged to become more actively involved in European education and in the different European programs for young people.
