Inclusive Trans Stories is a youth exchange organised by, for, and with trans and non-binary young people. The idea emerged from the wish of a group of trans and NB young persons to engage in an intercultural storytelling workshop, with the observation that, on the one hand, trans youngsters have more difficulties accessing European mobility projects, either because they are actively or passively discriminated against or for fear that the projects will not be safe for them, and on the second hand, that it would be extremely empower for trans youngsters to be able to come together with peers from other countries and enrich their experience and understanding through intercultural dialogue. This is why we want to gather participants and teamers from several countries for 7 days to explore intercultural dialogue between peers and create meaningful, empowering narratives together, while experimenting with our expressions and European identity. ISSUES The common diagnosis of the young trans and NB persons and the partner organisations is that - intercultural mobility projects are often more difficult to access for trans and NB youngsters, either because they are actively discriminated against, because most projects lack insight and measures ensuring their safety and well-being, or in fear that they will not be safe in the project. We want to address this issue and show that it is possible for these participants to safely engage in these projects and that they are indeed willing to participate. - it is often difficult to ensure that the teams, even when well-meaning, will actually be capable to ensure the safety and well-being of trans and NB youngsters and that active or passive transphobia will not happen during the project; it is also difficult for trans and NB teamers to find a safe space in teams - unless specific measures are implemented, it is very difficult to make European projects really accessible to all in practice and not only in theory - there is a need and will for trans and NB youngsters to meet in intercultural settings to share and grow, engage in intercultural dialogue and actively practice their European citizenship - most media content regarding trans identities is either violent and discriminatory, or (even when it is well-meaning) negative-orientated, focused on the difficulties, discriminations, and traumas; - non-binary narratives are practically invisible; - there is a need for more positive, empowering narratives of trans and NB youth. OBJECTIVES - to create a safe, intercultural space for learning and exploring for trans and NB youth from several countries - to create positive, empowered narratives of trans and NB youth - to share and learn about diverse local realities and identities, thus promoting topic-related intercultural dialogue - to create a network of interconnected trans and NB youngsters and activists - to promote healthy activities for trans and NB youngsters - to raise awareness about the topic and contribute for more rights and better conditions for trans and NB persons - to raise awareness about diversity and fight stereotypes - to promote a more inclusive European identity and make European mobility actively inclusive of all youngsters
