Objectives

The goal of the implemented project was to increase the lessons` attractiveness and, consequently, the Matei Basarab Technical High School students’ motivation to actively participate in the learning process with the following specific objectives: O1. Developing specific teaching skills related to using innovative and interactive teaching-learning methods and techniques of ten (10) teaching school staff from Matei Basarab Technical High School, belonging to the following learning areas: Language and Communication, Mathematics and Sciences, Social Sciences, and Specialised Technologies, from May 2021 to November 2021. O2. Increasing the Matei Basarab Technical High School students` satisfaction related to lessons attractiveness from 38% recorded in the 2018-2019 school year to 60% by the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Background

With an annual average of over 1100 VET students and 70 teachers for the last three years, Matei Basarab Technical High School, located in the southwest region of Romania in Caracal city, is one of the largest technical high schools in Olt County. In short, its mission is to support the upper secondary students, from Caracal city and most of the rural areas of the southern part of Olt County, in developing general and specialised competencies that allow them to continue with their studies at the university level or to work as qualified workers or technicians after graduation. The teaching quality report for the 2018-2019 school year, based on statistical student results and survey data collected from both students and teaching staff, has shown a low motivation level for students to participate in the learning process actively. Overall, the school`s teaching staff is fully qualified and has extensive teaching experience. However, the lack of funding dedicated to staff continuing professional development has led to missed opportunities for teachers to update their teaching skills or develop new ones related to using new innovative and interactive teaching methods and techniques.
