We wanted the training of 11 teaching staff to use creative methods in the lessons. We also aimed for the methods taught in the courses to increase the quality of the educational-therapeutic act for the students of our school and for the teachers to acquire new skills for working with students with SEN, necessary for the development of their social and personal autonomy. We wanted an attractive educational process for our students, which would facilitate their integration into society and decrease absenteeism. At the same time, we aimed for teachers to be more motivated to actively participate in school life, to improve their methodical and scientific activities at the level of the unit and outside of it.
Following the application of some questionnaires to our teachers, we found a lack of communication and teacher-student barriers. This was due to the lack of innovative teaching methods, the non-homogeneous component of the classes, the lack of textbooks and innovative materials. Among teaching staff, there is an inertia regarding improvement. Children with SEN needed a motivation to participate in school activities. Over time, the unattractive methods used by teachers have led to a lack of interest among students, especially since most of them come from disorganized families or are institutionalized in placement centers. In each class there are several types of disabilities (autism, Down syndrome, visual impairment, retardation), which implies differentiated teaching and modern didactic strategies. The offer of training courses in the country, in the field of special education, is poor, addressed particularly to teachers from mainstream education. We considered that an international level training will improve the quality of the educational act in our school, by changing both the mentality of the teaching staff and the approach to the didactic and therapeutic process, improving it.
