Objectives

Developing the capacity of museum staff responsible for non-formal adult education to interact with different categories of visitors, within the framework of activities aimed at the museum's loyal public and those aimed at developing cultural consumption by attracting new categories of visitors. Adult education is an established component of the activities of museum institutions, and for the development of these activities it is necessary to strengthen institutional support and to include more and more frequently adult education activities in museum programmes. This requires the development of the human factor, the staff of museum institutions, which must develop new types and formulas of interaction with the public and ways of working together to achieve the proposed objectives. In this respect, it is very important to diversify the competences of museum staff and to develop the capacity for collaboration and interaction of all categories of museum professionals involved in non-formal and informal education. The creation of joint, interdepartmental teams has responded to this need to understand the museum as a unified and united body.

Background

Erasmus+ project "Open Museum. Innovative approaches in adult education for audience development" aimed at facilitating access to mobility projects for categories of employees in contact with the public, in order to learn modern methods and techniques of interaction with the public. The increasing flow of visitors and the diversification of their categories, as well as the development of programmes associated with these upward developments have highlighted the need to improve the communication and interaction skills of all categories of staff with the public, as well as to develop the associated competences. We considered it necessary to develop these competences and skills through participation in structured training courses and events in experienced organisations in countries within the European space, thus also responding to the need to improve the international experience of museum staff, knowledge and adherence to a standard of values that characterises non-formal museum education activity in the European space. In addition, we aimed at removing unnecessary internal boundaries within the organisation, in order to transform the museum into a coherent and unified body.
