“Your VOTE, Your VoicE+” project was born on the background of a disinterest of young people both in Europe and in Romania regarding the democratic process and involvement in civil society. This main issue was identified during “VOTE EU” Seminar by 2 of the partners involved. The data we analysed during "VOTE EU" seminar: - election rate from 2019 is 50.62% (42.61% in 2014). Still a rate of absent in European elections were young people (18-35). The reasons most often mentioned by them include mistrust and disinterest in politics. Post-election Study 2014 (http://www.europarl.europa.eu/atyourservice/en/be-heard/eurobarometer/post-election-survey-2014, Analytical Synthesis) - the lack of interest in politics (in general) is the strongest in Cyprus (80%), Malta (70%) and Romania (70%). * EU membership-less obvious in Italy (35%) and Cyprus (37%); * Attachment to EU-reduced in Greece, (41%, -12), Cyprus (41%, -15) and Italy (45%, -14). - the feeling of reduced European citizenship in the countries affected by the crisis: Cyprus (52%), Greece (46%) and Italy (45%); * Confidence in European institutions reduced in countries affected by the crisis: Italy (35%, 25), Portugal (34%, -24), Spain (38 %, -21), Cyprus (48%, -18), Greece (39%, -12), France (36%, 10). - lack of interest in politics is strongest in Romania (70%). Local context - Post electoral country statistics Although the number of voters raised with 8 points from 2014, still the youngsters (from 18 and 24) are not so interested to vote. Constanta had a significant no of youth voting so we consider this city and the actions implemented here a good practice example. Rates for election in 2019: Italy 26%; Spain, 28%, Poland 38% Bulgaria, 36% Cyprus-28%, Malta-29% . Partner analysis * Motives not to vote: "Mistrust in politics in general", "the vote has no effect / does not change anything", "I do not care about politics", "I don`t know anything about the EU, EU institutions", "and the information in the public campaigns is minimum". The common needs all partners identified were: to create tools/strategies to facilitate the political participation of young people; to contribute with information about the role of the EU institutions; to create a culture of community participation; involve young people in the political process (public policy); to increase commitment and dialogue with decision-makers'; to strengthen the role of youth work in empowering young people; to improve synergies and collaboration between relevant actors. The main objectives Our common analysis pointed out also specific needs of our youth workers involved in activities with young people as following: - relevant information about the EU (representatives, institutions); - exchange effective practices / methods to help develop the sense of belonging to the EU of young people and their participation in the National / European Parliamentary elections. Needs of partners involved: develop actions / tools specific to each community to improve active citizenship of young people; create an international network to develop further actions; improve synergies/collaboration between various actors; train youth workers on the topic. Specific objectives of “Your VOTE, Your VoicE+” project: 1.Improve EU-related knowledge (European legislative process) and among 24 youth workers from 8 countries, through thematic sessions/meetings with members of the Romanian Parliament, during 7 days; 2.Develop key competences related to active citizenship / European Citizenship among 24 youth workers from 8 countries, through thematic workshops and follow-up actions, during 10 months; 3.Encourage the democratic and civic participation of at least 300 young people from the 8 communities through a better understanding of the functioning of National / EU institutions by implementing specific actions (campaign on-line, workshops) for 4 months.
