Objectives

The specific objectives of the project were: O1: to help 35 young people from Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Spain and Romania to understand and internalize the notion of a sustainable living and to acquire knowledge about different ways and practices of sustainable lifestyle in an international environment, during a 7 days youth exchange in Romania; O2: to motivate and support 35 participants in using newly gained knowledge and skills to follow up on the project by organizing different events in their countries after the project, being agents of sustainable lifestyle and active members in their community by disseminating the results of the 7 days mobility programme; O3: to increase the level of collaboration on international projects in the field of environmental consciousness among 5 partner organizations from different European countries. The Youth for sustainable living project aimed to raise awareness of importance of sustainable living in the future of our world and help 35 young people (6 participants aged between 18-24 years and 1 group leader aged 18+ per country) from 5 European countries (Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Spain and Romania) within youth exchange for 7 days, to reconnect to nature, promote the sustainable use of natural resources, through very simple activities, such as cooking with local, fresh ingredients, gathering herbs on a trip, making natural cosmetics and cleaning products etc. With this project we do not intended to solve big, international problems. Our aim is was to bring closer everyday-problems to the youngsters, draw the participants’ attention of their responsibility, and find solutions together that can help them in their own life to be more aware in natural protection and live a more ecological lifestyle. In addition planned to raise awareness of stakeholders, local and European communities about the problem by promoting the project results. All the planned activities served the aim to teach participants about the sustainable lifestyle. Besides developing thematic competences, participants also developed communication, linguistic, social and cultural competences. During the youth exchange youngsters understood their culture, accept and respect other cultures, and discovered new cultures, habits and lifestyles. In the long term this youth exchange created positive effects both at local communities and among the participants, as well at national and European level, by contributing to the development of active participation of young people in the environmental protection. Our project contributed to the objectives of the Erasmus+ program also by diversifying non- formal education strategies to motivate young people to get involved in promoting sustainable living. They also got up-to-date information about the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange possibilities. We needed to do some changes, because the Bulgarian partner asked us if it is possible to be flexible about the age of the participants, because of the started war situation and Covid-19 pandemic it was harder to find participants, a lot of people were scared. Also, unfortunately, in the end Bulgarians did not participate (the reason will be mentioned later on), so more Romanians had opportunity in the last minute to learn more about sustainable living.
