Objectives

The project " Rural youth vote! " was a 10-day youth exchange that took place in Brebu, Caras-Severin, between 01.10 - 10.10.2021, with the participation of 40 young people, aged between 16 and 22 panpipes, and 6 group leaders, over the age of 18, from 5 countries: Macedonia, Italy, Turkey, Serbia and Romania. The young participants learned how to get involved in political life, in the decision-making process at the local level, they learned about the importance of voting at the local, national and European level, about the role and interaction between democratic institutions at all levels. The aim of our project "Young people want to vote!" was to stimulate the participation of young people in the vote as European citizens actively involved in the life of the communities in which they live and in making decisions concerning them. The objectives of the project were: O1: to enrich the knowledge of the 40 young people from 5 countries, during the exchange, about the elections and about the role of the institutions / bodies resulting from the vote; O2: foster dialogue between the 40 young people from 5 countries in order to better understand their vote and participation in the process as active European citizens; O3: to develop the capacity of the 40 young people from 5 countries to organize local information campaigns and petitions, in order to motivate young people to participate in the vote and to be actively involved in the political life of their communities. The reasons behind writing this project were: • Statistics on youth turnout in the European elections have been worrying. As a result, it was necessary to sensitize young people to vote for their future. The intention to get involved in political life exists among young people, but information on this topic has been confusing or lacking, especially in rural communities. • In 2020 there were parliamentary and local elections, and young people better understood the political system and the importance of their vote to improve the political situation. • The project also responded to a wave of Euroscepticism, fake news and misinformation about the EU, the lack of interventions from other associations or authorities for correct information. Through this project we wanted the participants to be able to later involve other young people in political life, passing on the knowledge about the importance of voting at local, national and European level. At the same time, the young participants better understood the role of the European / national Parliament and other voting bodies, the interconnection between them and democratic institutions / bodies and bodies in decision-making at European, national, county and local level. We also wanted young people to learn more about the Erasmus + program, the Youthpass certificate and its use in learning and employment. This project has addressed the European priorities of the Erasmus program: improving the skills and abilities of young people in rural areas, promoting participation in democratic life in Europe, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity. The national objectives targeted were: social inclusion, participation and active citizenship, development of social, civic and intercultural skills, combating false news and other forms of online misinformation.
