Objectives

This project, more specifically the courses we attended in Ireland, Portugal and Italy, helped us understand some crucial principles related to teaching SEN and gifted students, as well as understanding how students use technology for learning, so that now we feel more confident about working with them. More importantly, we realized that by talking about the course and sharing ideas and its key features with our colleagues, everybody felt more self-assured and less frustrated about approaching and effectively teaching SEN and gifted students and using web 2.0 tools, Augmented and Virtual Reality in education.

Background

Recently there has been a rise in the SEN students who would choose grammar schools to attend after they have finished primary education. Since we, secondary school teachers, feel inapt when it comes to working with this sensitive group, we realized that we needed a deeper insight into the problematic issue, something that can be shared with others so that everyone would be more empowered to teach SEN students. When it comes to SEN students we include here also students with special abilities (in computer science) since one of the courses was about gifted students and their needs.
