Objectives

Internationalization at Upplands-Bros schools has largely been neglected and there is a need to gain access to increased international exchange through Erasmus+. The opportunities that exist in the form of courses, job shadowing and other exchanges would broaden the international perspective to be able to see one's own reality in a global context and to create international solidarity and to live in a society with close contacts across cultural and national borders . The international perspective also means developing an understanding of the cultural diversity within one's own country. Through the courses and job shadowing, international contacts are created, which both the individual principal, the teacher, and the entire organization can continue to benefit from, for example, in Erasmus+ strategic partnerships. The organization will develop and become an international learning organization, where acquisition and reflection on knowledge and pedagogical methods is done together with European colleagues. In both the short and long term, students will be affected by the international dimension in teaching.

Background

Upplands-Bro municipality applied for project funds because there were a number of areas that the municipality identified as the schools and the principal needed to improve on through quality reviews and compared results with the rest of the country and conducted surveys at the schools. In Upplands-Bro, there has also been a need to allow staff within the school to gain international experience and the opportunity to absorb European knowledge and experience that is enriching and developmental. By offering the schools' staff the opportunity to participate in courses and job shadowing, we lay a foundation for understanding in the work of broadening the international perspective in the organization and in the educational work. Awareness among principals about how to work internationally can create a more active leadership at each individual school to be included in their own projects in the future. The principal's responsibility to fulfill the curriculum's intentions can be more easily implemented, and insight and participation begin with them. In this way, the project contributes to internationalization and increased quality in education.
