Prior to the application, we located three main areas that we wanted to develop: Increase interest in the vocational training-programmes at our school Promote internationalization and higher cultural understanding Create higher employability among our students Increase interest in vocational training - We have seen a decrease in some vocational programs. By offering APL abroad, we hope and believe in an increased interest in our vocational training. Promote internalization and higher cultural understanding - Because the students had the opportunity to do APL in Spain, they reached a greater understanding of other cultures and all that this may mean, such as food, religion, traditions etc. The students gained an understanding that what we have in Sweden is not always the best or vice versa. Create higher employability among our students - By allowing the students to add foreign APL to their CVs, it gave the students a broader competence when looking for a job. The students APL abroad has made them grow as individuals and acquire greater competence for their future working life. During the period abroad, they have also been forced to take greater responsibility for their everyday life and because of this, the students came home with an increased sense of responsibility and self-confidence.
Over the years, the apprenticeship training and RL have had individual students who have placed their workplace-based learning (APL) abroad. The students who have had APL abroad have described the period as extremely educational. We experience that the students who have been abroad are in demand on the labor market in our local area. They are also positively disposed to working and/or studying further in other countries. Previous students have passed on their experiences to younger students, the traveling students' knowledge is therefore spread to a large proportion of students who are not away. Our intention and hope with the project was to expand and develop our international collaborations. The vocational training programs main goal is to make the students employable after their upper secondary education. Af Chapman High School has a long background of international collaborations on national programs and is a ambassadour school for EU. As vocational teachers, we considered it important to give the students in the vocational programs the same opportunity. We have since had great help in the project's initial stage from Johan Eggers, who assisted with advice and enabled preparatory visits when we were forced to change partners.
