One of the objectives of the project was to learn more about the European dimension in order to strengthen the quality of teaching both in terms of basic skills and the labor market's need for more people to be able to obtain a high school diploma, increase their employability and obtain higher knowledge and personal qualifications. Another objective was to develop work with equity, social integration and active citizenship and create a clear European dimension in our principal's area and subsequently for the entire school. We also wanted to increase the staff's pedagogical competence within environmental perspectives and issues of sustainable development as well as the historical perspective in order to develop the students' understanding of social integration/inclusion and international solidarity. Environmental change, global citizenship and migration are important contemporary themes across Europe and the world and we believe that adult learning has a key role in creating a more sustainable future. We also intended to create a platform for collaboration with other educational providers both in our municipality and in other municipalities, as well as creating networks for future collaborations with colleagues in Europe.
In today's global world, it is significant that international cooperation should be part of our teaching as a continuous element in the competence development of teaching staff with the aim and focus on the school's qualitative development goals and results. A European international collaboration would help our teachers to deepen their knowledge regarding issues that include inclusion and justice for all people in today's multicultural society. The globalization we are experiencing today requires new knowledge of international activities at school level (tools and methods) with both breadth and depth and opportunities to be able to formulate and solve new problems. It was important for the school to be able to ensure the quality of the European dimension in our curricula, and an international project would guide us in this work. The complex world is in constant change where many factors such as e.g. labor market, economy, environment and climate threats affect us. An international collaboration would create a basis for long-term planning of our educations regarding climate issues and the sustainable society of the future, as well as for updating our policy and strategy for climate issues from a global and European perspective.
