Objectives

Through the project we wanted to enable youth workers to feel and reflect about the power of gender and gender roles by giving them space to discuss, debate and learn more on topics which often remain undisclosed. We wanted to implement this project because we believe in equal participation of men and women in different life domains. Unfortunately, this still remains an important issue in the countries and societies of the organizations which have developed this project․ This is why we have designed a long-term project “Moving Towards Gender Sensitive Youth Work in Europe”, which consisted of 2 activities - a Training Course for Youth Workers and a Youth Exchange for Young People. In general, the project pursued the following main objectives: A) Exchanging experiences, best practices and knowledge between youth workers and youth organizations on gender mainstreaming and women empowerment; B) Developing participants knowledge and understanding of various concepts related to gender and emphasizing the importance of gender equally in youth work; C) Providing space for learning about gender issues by sharing and comparing the realities in the European Union and the Neighboring Partner countries; D) Promoting gender sensitivity in youth work and gender-sensitive approach in the participating organizations; E) Facilitating networking among participants and promoting development of joint projects under Erasmus+ promoting gender equality; F) Developing quality support systems for youth activities and capacities of youth organizations to develop partnerships. The Training Course (Activity 1) pursued the following objectives: - To exchange experiences, best practices and knowledge between youth workers and their organizations on gender mainstreaming and women empowerment; - To develop participants knowledge and understanding of various concepts related to gender and emphasize the importance of gender equality in youth work; - To promote gender equality in youth work and gender-sensitive approach in the participant organizations; - To develop the quality of support systems for youth activities and capability of youth organizations to create new partnerships under Erasmus+. - To strengthen the partnership between the organizations involved in the project The Youth Exchange (Activity 2) pursued the following objectives: - To exchange experiences, information and knowledge between young people and their organizations on gender mainstreaming and women empowerment; - To develop young peoples’ knowledge and understanding of various concepts related to gender and emphasize the importance of gender equality in their daily lives and relationships; - To promote gender equality and gender-sensitive approach among young people; - To study and observe culture and traditions of other countries; - To encourage intercultural dialogue and cross-border friendships and cooperation. As a result of the project, participants raised their awareness on gender challenges and perspectives, understood better European values, history, different cultures, religions, traditions, and have risen up awareness towards diversity: meeting with different people by different backgrounds, nationalities, traditions and cultures, working with them in a group, having free time activities and leisure time, except activities, led the participants to appreciate and respect the different people and rise the sense of tolerance and appreciation of differences. The participants were empowered to make positive changes in their organizations, workplaces, communities as well as their everyday lives. They were left with a toolkit addressing gender issues. Definitely, the project had a significant impact on participants’ knowledge, way of thinking and attitude concerning gender issues. It also gave them possibility to be multiplier of knowledge about the topic as well as the tools used during the project, so participants, in their own countries of origin, are now better equipped to explain to their peers either personally or through more structured presentations (with the help of the partner organizations) details about the project and the result of it and their general experience.
