“Volunteering Pays Off” training idea came out as a project from years of experience of the organization in working with local volunteers in natural areas and in cooperating with organizations dedicated to promotion of Eco and sustainable tourism initiatives. While designing and implementing volunteering programmes on one hand and exchanging practice and experience with partner organizations, two main things were concluded: a) There are many organisations around Europe that are working with young volunteers on everyday basis, but lack strategy and long-term set objectives, that would ensure personal development of volunteers on one hand and sustainability of organisations on the other. b) Volunteering programmes focused on eco and sustainable employment promotion, if they are meeting needs of young people and have their competences assessed in a proper way, can do a lot for future employment of young people, by developing their competencies, by empowering them and by incorporating life long learning into their objectives. Therefore, the main aim of the project was increase the employability of young people from our partner organizations and our communities through tailored Eco and sustainable volunteering programmes. The project included training and practical activities about eco employment, eco tourism, making social entrepreneurship plans, planning new programmes for engaging young volunteers, planning future employment activities and above all improving the skills of the youth workers to engage young people in volunteering programmes that will increase their employability mainly in eco employment areas. Lot of focus was given to presentation of methodology of engaging young people through sports and sightseeing as a part of strategy for developing sustainable eco based entrepreneurial programs. In the surrounding of Popova Shapka and Tetovo city there are several companies dealing with sustainable tourism initiatives. Our idea was based on connecting the participants with those companies through experiencing their work and teach them in very practical way by getting involved in the activities for designing and running eco/sustainable tourism based facility.
