With this project, we aimed to start a culture of international involvement in our school, to build lasting professional relationships with experts in the areas that are not greatly present in our local area. On an individual basis, we wanted to gain new knowledge in the area of using games and game elements as one of the main methods of learning in children. We wanted to build digital, language, and organizational competencies for our attendees as well as gain new knowledge, which is always welcome and needed when working with SEN children. With the acquired knowledge, we have evaluated our previous work, which is essential so that we can add new steps to the vision of the school process, which will help us in ensuring better implementation of the learning process. Because our school has little experience in international activities, we wanted to promote various possibilities that Erasmus plus offers to staff and pupils. With a project on a smaller scale, we wanted to build a foundation for further international cooperation of our school.
As a primary school, specifically established for children with special educational needs (SEN), we often have fewer possibilities to gain professional knowledge due to the small number of special schools in Slovenia. We aim to become a regional support center for children with special needs, their families, and their caretakers. Because the characteristics and number of SEN children is constantly changing, we are always seeking opportunities to educate ourselves to be able to better provide for our pupils. The main reason we applied for this project was to gain competencies in the field of using game elements in the teaching process, and with that to increase social inclusion and strengthen strong areas of our pupils, to minimize the stigma that comes from being a pupil of a special school in our society. Other causes for applying are to start activities in international programs such as Erasmus plus, to gain our teachers' professional, digital, social, and language competencies.
