We wanted to improve methods of experiential learning, and practical outdoor lessons in nature, encouraging students to coexist with nature and to spend their free time healthier (with reduced use of modern technology). We wanted to take advantage of the school's surroundings with grassy areas, sports fields, and an outdoor classroom. The selected mobilities enabled us to use new methods of encouraging students to develop creativity, communication skills, empathy, persistence, work habits, and self-evaluation. We wanted to acquire appropriate approaches to help students in stressful/anxious situations and to solve emotional/behavioral problems. We wanted to create a model of permanent pedagogical practice that will develop students' cognitive abilities, cooperation, and self-confidence.
Our main goal is to enable our students a creative learning environment and to give them the necessary knowledge and competence for their further schooling and to reach their aims. In 2018 we applied to start the concept of the extended program (RaP) in primary school which is a comprehensive reform in the system of primary school. We integrated to perform the attempt organized by the National Education Institute and the Ministry of Education to which 19 primary schools in Slovenia are included. We entered this project by understanding the huge challenge we set in but sovereign that we can offer our students a better learning environment with our knowledge as well as competence. By performing all the activities in RaP we have learned that despite great knowledge and contemporary didactic methods we lack examples of good practice and new creative methods with which we would like to improve the skills of planning/organizing of learning through children’s games, experiential learning, spending of their free time and formative assessment. We have decided to gain the missing competence in the broader European space by exchanging good practices and modern didactic approaches.
