Objectives

Student success and achievement are inextricably related to a high level of motivation for learning. Through European mobilities and cooperation we encouraged our teachers to integrate contemporary methods of teaching and learning into their practices. Our aim was for teachers to use ICT tools and materials effectively, comprehensively, creatively and confidently, which opens up new possibilities for motivating students and assessing the learning process. Another goal was to improve our activities with foreign students and facilitate their full inclusion in all segments of school life and work. Since our school has two programs - the regular primary school program and the adapted program with a lower educational standard - we sought ways of implementing inclusive education whereby students with special needs would develop their social and communication skills with the rest of the students. We wanted to ensure that students with special needs were treated equally in the school, local and European contexts. The general aim of the mobilities was to establish a European space of life-long learning, improve the international aspect of education and training, improve the teaching and learning of languages and foster the language diversity and intercultural awareness of the EU.

Background

Our school is committed to systematically improving the quality of our work, particularly student achievement and fostering tolerance, respectfulness and other basic human values. In our desire to improve in these areas, we actively sought opportunities to acquire new knowledge and see examples of good practice through education courses and job shadowing abroad. In delineating key areas of improvement we considered our school’s vision, the results of the 2018/2019 self-evaluation report and surveys conducted with our students and their parents. The findings showed that our students mostly tended to be passive participants in the lessons, which was reflected also in their achievement. Student achievement comprises a wide array of cognitive and conative effects that the learning process has on the students, which in turn include social, emotional, cognitive, psychomotor and other aspects of human activity at any level of education. A more comprehensive learning is achieved by intertwining these aspects, which is in line with contemporary guidelines that place the students and his learning experience front and center.
