We decided on this training together with some partners who also work in the field of mental health, well-being and personal development of young people. We judged that we had encountered too little in our work with young people accessible, professional and quality education that would concretely train us (youth workers) on the topic of mental health. Many times, this topic is closed to institutions and psychiatry, which solve the problem when the problem is already extreme. At the same time, we youth workers have great power to prevent or patch many problems at an early stage, by developing young people holistically and thus developing their resilience, the right professional approach, awareness and knowledge. An additional goal of the education was to invite experts to the youth sector of non-formal education specialize in mental health. The education pursued the goals of a holistic understanding of mental health issues and focused primarily on what a youth worker can do. The key objective of the training was to educate youth workers on the mental health of young people (protective and risk factors, key symptoms of endangering mental health, etc.), hand over / share some practical tools, methods and approaches for the development of positive mental health of youth, educate them on the appropriate approach and further guidance of at-risk young people. We also wanted to share different practices of organizations on how they deal with this issue, and we extracted future good practice for participants from each specific organization. We also wanted to teach youth workers group and individual methods of work that have proven successful in working with young people in mental distress. The aim was for the organizations involved to actually change / improve their practice in this area, and to raise awareness of the importance of mental health as well as the “normality / frequency” of mental distress in organizations (and beyond, through project promotion and dissemination of results). With greater awareness and promotion of mental health, youth workers and organizations find it easier to overcome taboos and stigmatization related to mental health issues, and thus more easily enter into bold empowerment. Through dissemination of project results, promotion and reproductive effects, we wanted to raise awareness of the general public and youth about the lifelong development of young people, the normality of ups and downs (and thus destigmatization of vulnerable young people and young people in mental distress), the importance of prevention programs their well-being. In doing so, we aim to make these programs more accessible to young people. At the same time, the aim of the training was to supplement youth workers knowledge of innovative approaches, methods of working in youth work (such as using creative media, establishing interpersonal support, rainbow desire method, as well as successful working methods shared by organizations). We wanted to increase the quality of youth work, especially with a more vulnerable group of young people. Mainly through approaches and methods of work that empower young people personally when they are in mental distress and similar problems, as well as when they are not. The aim is to expand these methods in the long term in the youth work sector, so that youth workers can carry out group and individual activities that support mental health, integrated development and help young people from mental distress. To this end, the partners of the training course want networking, dissemination and development of quality youth policy, prevention, creative and innovative ways of working with young people in the field of mental health and holistic well-being - promoted through dissemination activities (documentary, online manual, articles). Through education and dissemination of learning through participants and organizations, we wanted a positive impact on young people. Learned approaches aim to strengthen their resilience, promote personal and social development and develop internal potentials. The aim is for young people to become aware of mental, emotional and social stress and balance them if needed. The goal is for youth workers to be able to contribute to the development of positive self-image, self-confidence, increase creativity of young people and teach them life skills that help prevent the development of mental disorders and facilitate overcoming difficult life periods. We aimed for young people to develop personal and social competencies, a sense of personal orientation, a sense of life and their role in the wider community.. All this enhances the mental health and well-being of young people.
