Project summary

ANIMAVISION - social inclusion of young people with less opportunities through making animated film is an international strategic partnership project of three organizations from three different countries (Germany, Slovenia and Turkey). Main objective of the project is to develop a new method of inclusion of young people with less opportunities, test it with young people in practise and publish it publicly on the web site of the video school Vision (www.vision-videoschool.eu) in four different languages. In our organisations and in our networks we noticed that we still don’t possess enough knowledge on recognising, accessing and including young people with less opportunities in our environment and including them in different activities. All participating organisations are active in the field of media education so we decided to develop a method from this field. In the project we will organise three different trainings for youth workers where they will gain knowledge on recognising, accessing and including young people with less opportunities in our environment and on making animated film. The knowledge will be tested with groups of young people with less opportunities in all three participating countries. During the project an intellectual output will be made - 8 new chapters that will be published on the web site of video school Vision that was made in our strategic partnership project five years ago. They will be published free of charge in 4 different languages. The new knowledge will be disseminated through multiplier events and the Vision web site locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The project will include at least 10 youth workers and 90 young people from three different countries. New knowledge will be available on line also after the conclusion of the project free of charge for all interested youth workers and young people.

Objectives

The project aimed to increase and empower youth workers in the partner organisations involved in the project, as well as in our local environments, regions, countries and internationally, with the skills to engage young people with fewer opportunities through the creation of an animated film. At the same time, we wanted to make our knowledge permanently accessible in a digital environment for all interested young people, youth workers and other educators and organisations in the future.

Background

The project brings together three organisations that involve young people outside the major urban centres and in the field of artistic creation. In our work,we recognised that we do not yet have sufficient knowledge to engage young people with fewer opportunities, especially the new groups that are emerging, and that we have not yet developed or tested appropriate methods for identifying, accessing and engaging them. So we developed a project together to help us learn these new skills, test them in practice, involve a range of young people with fewer opportunities in testing activities and publish the knowledge online to make it as widely accessible as possible. We saw making animated films as an appropriate method. Making one allows individuals to develop a range of skills, from observing their surroundings, storyboarding, group collaboration, social skills, group communication, art skills and use of digital technology. We have identified animation as suitable for young people with fewer opportunities because individuals do not have to expose themselves on camera and can share their stories and experiences through fictional characters, also the materials and equipment to make simple animated films are cheap and widely available.
