Our primary goal was to improve the quality of foreign language teaching by introducing new elements and methods in the field of education. We wanted teachers to be well prepared for the changes in terms of modernisation and internationalisation of the school. Practice in our school has shown that we need to engage in new innovative and creative methods in teaching to improve the educational outcomes of the school's pupils. A long term need of the school was to involve teachers and pupils in international projects and to enhance the school's credit. Another reason was to motivate pupils for learning foreign languages, to gain more confidence of teachers in communicating with foreign partners, to create a database of activities and methods for the needs of our teachers, to exchange experiences with teachers from abroad. We also needed to connect teaching with real situations and current problems of today, to develop teachers' creativity and improve their ICT competences.
The Karol Rapoš School in Brezno was established in 2007, it has 638 pupils, 266 children in kindergarten, 94 teaching and 2 professional staff. It is equipped with professional classrooms. The entire school curriculum is focused on teaching mathematics, computer science and science subjects and developing sporting talents in gymnastics and hockey. The aim of the school and its staff is an educated and well-mannered pupil who speaks two foreign languages and can actively use modern information technology in learning, who is independent, creative and ready to work in a team. The school supports and facilitates the continuous lifelong learning of teaching staff in their professional and career development. The school strives to provide quality foreign language education for all students in the school. We have also had experience with international projects. In the framework of the eTwinning programme, we were awarded the European Quality Certificate in October 2019 in recognition of our excellent work in the implementation of the international project "Rocketship 2: Fly Me To The Moon". For these reasons, we decided to participate for the first time in the Erasmus+ programme in the field of School education staff mobility.
