Objectives

We wanted to move the school to the next level by implementing the project. The name of our project evidences this. That is, to build a modern school of the 21st century. We managed to do that because the experience gained from abroad led us to introduce an international IB program at the school. What does an international baccalaureate mean? It was not included in the initial plan, but this idea came to us over the years when teachers traveled and received training in a foreign language. Everything that we set out to do in the plan, we gradually began to implement in practice. In particular, we used foreign languages much more in non-language subjects. Our colleagues gained self-confidence and sought other possibilities to move the school forward. Their ideas are gradually put into practice. We already have a second international class, where students are educated in English. In these classes, we are changing the entire system of education, access to students, and the evaluation system. We teach subjects we have not taught before—for example, the subject of Science or Art. Many teachers have also completed educational courses within our project's framework, which has started them to work on themselves further.

Background

As a school that educates students with specific eclectic talents, we have been devoting ourselves for a long time to moving the school forward and significantly expanding the knowledge and skills of our colleagues. Before submitting this project, we already had experience managing projects within the framework of KA229 challenges, i.e. educational activities for pupils. So we tried to implement a project of this kind, while our main goal was to provide teacher education abroad, which was conducted in the English language. Teachers can continue their newly acquired knowledge in practice, enriching their teaching process at school. The students also benefited because their colleagues returned from the educational activities, informed their colleagues at various meetings, and immediately applied the acquired knowledge in the teaching process. For example, a colleague from the 1st grade, who was on an internship in an Italian school, immediately after her return, introduced elements of CLIL methods of teaching Italian in her classes. This school year continues in the methods and introduces aspects of the CLIL method in teaching mathematics, science and music education. The representatives gained management skills.
