Objectives

In particular, we wanted to achieve the sharing of experience and the promotion of adult education in expatriate schools in areas where Slovaks form a national minority in Romania. The situation in minority communities in Romania has changed a lot in recent times and the mother tongue is becoming the learning of a foreign language, and we have been very helpful in this for the Romanian side, because we know the forms, methods and ways of learning Slovak as a foreign language. We have also cooperated with the receiving organization in the past, we had good working interactions with each other and we would like to continue some cooperation in the future. We wanted to improve our competencies in the presentation of educational methods abroad and this was a unique opportunity. We wanted to travel directly to areas where Slovak is taught abroad, to evaluate and compare the situation of the educational process in Slovakia and abroad. We planned to share and present the results of our work and experience in the international environment, expand professional competencies oriented towards frequent participants, link theory with practice, expand professional competencies oriented to the educational process and self-development of the lecturer, improve intercultural education.

Background

In adult education, UJOP CĎV UK provides a wide portfolio of educational programs for increasing knowledge, competences and skills of professional and personal growth. The Department for Language and Training (ÚJOP) organizes, manages and provides linguistic and vocational training for foreigners and compatriots. It teaches Slovak as a foreign language and professional subjects for adult foreign students who are preparing for regular university studies in Slovakia. We asked for an Erasmus+ project called Education in a Minority Language because we wanted to improve our cooperation with lecturers who teach Slovak language to compatriots in Romania, and romanian Slovaks are also part of our portfolio of students and clients of our educational programmes. The courses are also attended by lecturers who teach abroad. We planned to share and present the results of our work and experience in the international environment, expand professional competencies oriented towards frequent participants, link theory with practice, expand professional competencies oriented to the educational process and self-development of the lecturer, improve intercultural education.
