We wanted to achieve the increase awareness of our teachers, especially working at secondary and high schools, without having any knowledge of defining and solving cyberbullying problems. We applied this project as consortium in order to reach wide range of teachers and students.Within the project, we wanted to learn how to keep away our students from the mental,emotional,physical effects of bullying.Beside this, we intended to get the skills of; increasing the awareness level of cyber bullying,defining the short and long term effects of cyber bullying and their interference methods,being familiar to defining the reasons of cyber bullying,empathetic approach to victims facing cyber bullying, being aware of their responsibilities on secure internet usage both for themselves and their students,being familiar to the methods their students in order to higher their students skills to resist against cyber bullying,communicating effectively with families and learning the ways that are going to be carried out by cooperating in solving the problems,getting the students acquire the skills of being literate of using the information communication technologies and improving their second language skills.
The rapid development of information and communication technologies lead to the increase of using mobile phones, computers, and the internet more and as a consequence, a new type of bullying, shaping it from a physical concept to a cyber one, called “cyber bullying” appeared. We as a team searched about the real reasons under some behavioral problems at our district. We learned that our district was one of the places where cyberbullying is becoming a widespread problem among students between the ages of 11-17. The survey, applied to our student in our district showed that 75% percent of our students are faced with at least one of the outcomes of cyber bullying such as coming across irritating contents, getting friend requests from people whom they don’t know, being forced to give their address, being threatened, being humiliated, being excluded from the group or being disrupted by other users which was concluded with suicide of a student ffrom Ataturk Ortaokulu (one of the consortium partner ),playing Blue Whale computer game. In order to cope with this international problem, find solutions and see how do our EU schools cope with this problem ,we started to implement our project to lessen the rate of bullying in our district.
