Objectives

We have accepted as our main goal to solve the problems (the low academic achievement of immigrant students, cultural conflict, peer conflict) that arise due to the inability to adequately meet our main need of "inability of our immigrant students to integrate into education", as per our school strategic plan, and to develop new international strategies and establish a strong international network. . Considering the European Union values of "non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity, freedom, democracy, equality and respect for human rights", we needed to develop personnel competencies for the best education. We wanted to witness the solution and process in other European countries that have the same problems as us, and to learn about their learning-teaching methods and to raise awareness by transferring these methods to our own school. Thus, we knew that with intercultural dialogue, we would reach our students more and give the best answer to their needs. Based on all these, we also aimed to increase the quality of education in our school, to increase the academic success of our school and to decrease the early school leaving rate in our school. Our special goals that we want to achieve by implementing the project; * Increasing the academic achievement of immigrant students by 10% at the end of the first year and by 20% in the second year, * Developing positive behaviors and attitudes towards our school and reducing the early school leaving of immigrant students from 21% to 15% in the first year of our project and to 9% in the second year, with the high motivation to be formed in our school, * Educating our immigrant students as individuals with high self-confidence and lifelong learning awareness, thanks to the positive practices and methods gained against immigrant students, * To our non-immigrant students; To gain the attitudes of being understanding, hospitable and respectful towards immigrant students, * To make our immigrant students forget the feeling of being excluded due to cultural differences, not to see themselves as belonging to their place, and to make all our students aware that everyone is equal even though they are different from each other, * To prove that multilingualism is a good advantage and that they can have a good future in our country, * In addition to adapting to the school, our immigrant students will discover their talents and increase their academic, sportive and artistic achievements and bring them into society, * Strengthening the cooperation between school and parents, * Internationalization in education and the development of new international strategy plans with the European vision of our school, * Reducing cultural conflict and increasing intercultural dialogue among our students with the effect of trust and positive thoughts in our school, * Improving teacher competencies that meet the needs of immigrant students, * To provide our teachers with the skills of digital citizenship, EU awareness, project-based teaching, globalization, adaptation to technology, adaptation and working with multinational classrooms, * Developing foreign language skills of our teachers, * We aimed to provide our teachers with creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and cooperation, ICT, social and intercultural skills, productivity and responsibility skills. In addition, the main areas of activity that we want to develop with our project are: * We wanted to improve our personnel and management competencies; - Our teachers understand different policies regarding immigrant students in different education systems, - Our teachers should understand the nature, causes and possible solutions of the educational disadvantages experienced by immigrant students in schools, - Our teachers can adapt immigrant students to the education system and the society they live in, - Our teachers can develop a school policy plan on the integration of immigrant students into schools, - Learning of our teachers to recognize the tools to prevent early school leaving and the practices to prevent early leaving, - Learning of our teachers about methods and methods that support school success. - The development of our teachers' language skills. * We wanted to improve our education program; - Making eTwinning projects related to immigrant students, - Giving parents a seminar on attitudes and behavior towards immigrant students, - Giving seminars/trainings to other teachers by our staff participating in the course, * We wanted to improve our Methods and Tools; Establishing a Support Education Class for the improvement of the education of immigrant students in our school in line with the gains obtained from the course, * Development of core competencies and techniques of staff and learners; Our teachers will be able to cope with the new complex classroom structure by developing academically and culturally, and to contribute more to our immigrant students in educational, personal and professional terms, and in this way, to be a solution to our institutional needs, * We wanted to achieve the development of sustainable cross-border cooperation.

Background

There are 96 immigrant students who are still actively studying at our school. These students are individuals with immigrant status who have immigrated to our country, especially from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. These students faced various problems in the year we wrote our project and before, and an adequate solution could not be found in our institution for the problems experienced by our immigrant students. In the 2019-2020 academic year, where we applied for our project, the teachers brought up the problems experienced by the migrant students in our school at the school branch teachers' board meeting at the beginning of the year. At the same time, considering the report of our guidance service and the minutes of parents, it was announced that the problems of immigrant students in our school continued to increase compared to previous years. Thereupon, a five-person commission consisting of our school counselors, culture and vocational course teachers was formed and the commission investigated the source of the problem. This commission surveyed 584 students and 106 teachers and as a result of the survey, the problems of our immigrant students; - 44% of them have low academic achievement, - 56% of them experience cultural conflict, - It has been determined that 33% of them have problems with their peers. Thereupon, a "Scale of Teacher Attitudes Towards Migrant Students" was administered to 106 of our teachers and it was observed that 68% of our teachers were below 50 points out of 100. This result; It showed that our teachers could not sufficiently include immigrant students in education and could not meet their needs. In addition, when the e-school data were examined in the same year, it was determined that the dropout rate of our immigrant students was 21%, and this situation caused the Early School Leaving problem in our school. We applied to this project in order to find solutions to the academic, cultural and peer problems of our immigrant students, so that our teachers can display the right attitude and behavior towards the problems our immigrant students have experienced, and that they have reached professional competencies that can produce solutions to their problems. Our other motivation for applying to this project is to create a happy school climate by increasing the sense of belonging and motivation of our immigrant students and other students by creating solutions to these problems of our immigrant students, and thus to find a solution to the problem of early school leaving in our school. In addition, in the SWOT analysis applied while preparing our school strategic plan, the integration of immigrant students into education was revealed as our weakness. Because this situation also causes the quality of education in our school and the academic success of the students to decrease. Considering one of our most important goals stated in our School Strategic Plan, "To equip our students with innovative methods and methods and raise them as individuals with high academic success", we applied to this project to transfer the successful methods applied for the education of immigrants in European countries to our school due to the education and training problems experienced by our immigrant students at our school.
