The preliminary achievement goal of the project was to increase the quality of education in our school, which is already located at a disadvantaged area of Sincan with huge economical and social among students. Participant students would gain new competencies and language skills to be preferred at the employment phase. Participants of Child Development Department would have hands on training on STEM Education at Early Childhood Topic and Participants of Food and Beverage Services Department would have hands on training on Portuguese Cousine. Our partner, Fundação de Ensino Profissional da Praia da Vitória (FEPPV) was the ideal place for that purpose as a vocational Portuguese School at the Azores Islands, with Child Development and Culinary Arts Departments. We wanted to imrove our students at an international environment and give them the chance to have new skills which can diferentiate them in their sectors. We also wanted to create a European Union awareness and international culture in our school's students and teachers with this first student mobility project. And we wanted to spread this awareness to the Sincan and general public area with dissemination studies.
High quality workforce is necessary to yield with increasing international rivalry due to fast developments in technology and globalisation. Methods for growing high quality workforce appropriate to the age are different from the approaches of the past. Our school, like many other vocational schools in Turkey, had problems like lack of practical learning, insufficiency of student experiences, difficulties in employability, lack of contemporary skills, competency and approaches and low level of relationship between vocational training and workforce markets and lack of language abilities. We applied for this project in order to give our students the chance of practical learning at an international environment and enrich their experiences by gaining new vocational competencies and language abilities. The overall aim of the project was to increase employability of our graduates with the increase of their vocational competencies both in Child Development Area and Food And Beverage Areas. STEM at Early Childhood Education and Portuguese Cousine were selected as the key topics during hands on training of these Departments.
