Democracy is commonly associated with various forms of voicing. Liberal democracy is founded on the ideal that every adult citizen “has a voice” that can and should be heard, just as they have a vote, and that these voices/votes are functionally equivalent to each other. Music making is a powerful tool for expressing ourselves. The project "ACT Music" is designed to aid young people in making their voices heard through words and music, to make them feel more comfortable about expressing their thoughts and ideas about things they go through, to involve them into social movements by using music as a tool. Besides this, youth will discover why music remains the political choice of those, wishing not just represent but to autocratically impose their values on others; how its emotional content can easily overwhelm, leaving individuals more susceptible to manipulation and control by the powerful. OBJECTIVES - To develop leadership competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) of the youngsters required in democratic society; - to reflect on meanings and perceptions of democracy in a multicultural society context, raising awareness on the concept of equal opportunities; - to raise awareness on the link between intercultural learning and active citizenship; - to explore how music can help to promote the values, understanding and actions needed to encourage global active citizenship; - to discover how music contributes to process of identity formation and community building; how musical practices further understanding of society of democracy; - to prepare youth to function as moral agents in public deliberations about the appropriate content and use of music in the public sphere; - to promote different types of active citizenship of young immigrants; - to create appropriate environments for sharing youngsters ideas with other members of the community; - to practice youth participation by organizing two concerts "ACT Music" during the Youth Exchange.
