Objectives

The project was prepared based on the local working experiences of the partner organizations and the difficulties and needs seen in these works. The groups in which partner organizations work were disadvantaged youth and specifically those from asylum seeker, refugee and migrant backgrounds. Partner organizations have found that the challenges of working with those disadvantaged youth also apply to other organizations working with them, at least in their region. The project preparation team, which consists of representatives of partner organizations, concluded that these problems are experienced throughout Europe as a result of the research and statistical analyzes they conducted during the preparation period. Conducted surveys, interviews, study visits and research reveal that social inclusion and social cohesion are among the main problems faced by refugees and immigrants. Again, researches showed that those problems are not only the problems of the refugees and immigrants, but also the local communities they live in Europe. These identified problems cause negative consequences such as introversion and entanglement between different cultures in immigrant groups, and xenophobia and racism in local communities. These and similar problems and consequences create social and cultural barriers to the EU cohesion strategy and the internalization of European values. Based on their research and local work experience in this context, the partner organizations agreed that civil society studies and civil-public cooperation would be beneficial in overcoming these problems. The partner organizations set out from the idea that more comprehensive and effective results would be obtained by expanding the field of civil society and developing cooperation between civil society and public in a European dimension. The partner organizations that came together with this approach determined the aims of the project as follows. To increase the social participation of asylum seeker/refugee/migrant youth and disadvantaged groups; creatingsensitivityandconsciousness on Europeanvalues, culturaldiversity, toleranceandrespectfordifferences on thesesegmentsandlocalcommunities; providingsupportforEuropeancitizenshipandactivecitizenshipissues; bringing in healthylivinghabits; thedevelopment of resolutionmechanismforthesocialandculturalproblems of asylumseekers/refugeesandimmigrants, thepromotion of volunteerism in localcommunitiesregardingtheintegration of thesegroups; to contribute to the cohesion of European society by supporting intercultural dialogue and education. The project participants examined the traditional games of different countries with historical features and their impact on the local lifestyle. They saw the effects of these games on today's cultural life and traditions, and by getting to know local cultures, they understood European cultural diversity better. The participants’ awareness of European Union issues and culture increased behaviours accordance with European values and advocacy skills improved. Project participants would be able to conduct their own analysis, improve their leadership and managerial skills, and express themselves in different languages, and use computers and internet technology more effectively. The institutional capacities of partner companies, European dimensions and recognition, management and organization qualifications increased. The project would raise awareness among local communities of the social and cultural involvement of refugees/asylum seekers and disadvantaged youth; would contribute to the fight against racism and xenophobia at European level. We used traditional sports and games as a tool during the project activities. Because traditional games serve as a historical bridge in the transfer of European local cultures and values to the present and the future. Therefore with this Project we aimed to; -Create European values, cultural diversity, tolerance to diversity, awareness and consciousness against violence and radicalization on refugee / asylum seekers / migrants and local communities, -Support on the issues of European Union and citizenship and active citizenship in the studies intended for refugee / asylum seekers and migrant communities, -The internalization of healthy lifestyle habits and sports culture, -Strengthen the local and general solution mechanisms for the economic and cultural problems of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, -Increase positive relations between local communities and refugee, asylum-seeker and migrant youth and encouraging volunteerism in this area, -Contribute to the harmonization of European society by supporting intercultural dialogue and education.
