Objectives

The goals we want to achieve by implementing the project are: - To create training content that will be needed by the personnel who will intervene when an individual living on medical devices is faced with a disaster or emergency, and to perform the evacuation process with special approaches to these individuals. With these training contents, it is expected that the professional knowledge and skills of the response personnel will increase. - Determining the special needs of individuals who are dependent on medical devices for personnel working in post-disaster temporary shelter services. With these training contents, the needs of these individuals in temporary shelter after the disaster will be known in advance. - Increasing the disaster awareness of the families of individuals who are connected to medical devices and being more prepared for disasters.

Background

Individuals covered by the project (such as SMA, ALS, etc.) cannot perform their vital functions (such as breathing, nutrition) on their own and are dependent on medical devices throughout their lives, so they are vulnerable to the dangers they may be exposed to. Especially in disasters and emergencies, they need help with special approaches. Response teams working in disasters and emergencies were not able to closely recognize these individuals and their vital medical devices. In addition, there were no in-service training resources on this subject. This posed a great risk to these individuals in terms of response and evacuation in disasters and emergencies. In addition, disasters and emergencies that have recently increased have been causing anxiety in the families of these individuals and causing them feeling to need to be more prepared for disasters. In the researches, sufficient educational resources on this subject could not be reached in national and international sources. All these negativities and needs led to the emergence of this project idea.
