Background

Demographic ageing in Europe is accelerating, as the number of elderly people aged 65–79 years will increase significantly until around 2030 (by about 37.4%). Life expectancy in EU is increasing, and the number of very old persons (those aged 80 years or above) are rising 57.1% between 2010 and 2030 These developments play an important role in the current agenda of the European Union, where one of the main aims of EU policy is to ensure both solidarity and non-discrimination among the EU population. Council of Europe adopted a recommendation in 2014 numbered CM/Rec(2014)2, which specifically addresses the promotion, protection and ensurance of full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by older people, and promotion of respect for their inherent dignity. For that reasons, there are needs in every country to include the elderly in the active part of society; to promote public and private support for their social inclusion, to generate new policies which keeps them strong in the public. It shows that there is a very big need for the social inclusion of the seniors in every country. GAP-IOS supports the EU policies to strengthen seniors above 65+ years old seniors by creating online training modules..
