Education Services wished to enhance the competencies of language teachers delivering Spanish and French in the classroom in line with Local Aurhority priorities in delivering and improving modern language provision and in line with the Scottish Government strategy for languages teachers 1 plus 2. We wished to improve confidence and competence in delivering French and Spanish through the offer of European professional development and also strengthen or educational MOU with Valencia and our twinning agreement with the region of Nice Marseilles. We also wished our staff to access European CPD in the countries of languages taught to enhance the language teaching offer across participating schools.
This project was applied for as the second stage of the European Development Plan for Languages teachers in Education Services, Glasgow City Council. Education had applied for a previous language mobility KA1 project in 2019 which was limited as a result of covid and we had wished to develop and sustain the impact with a further project involving language CPD in Valencia and job shadowing in Nice Marseille to complement and innovate the professional development offer to languages teachers in Glasgow. The link with Nice Marseilles also developed the educational capacity of Glasgow's formal twinning link with the region.
