The core of this project was to equip school leaders and their teams with the necessary skills to lead schools effectively, fostering a culture of wellbeing among staff, pupils, and families, ultimately driving the schools towards remarkable achievements. The consortium established three clear objectives to pursue: 1 - support professional development for inspiring Leadership and Management approaches. 2 - provide training in methodology and strategies for raising achievement and standards among pupils. 3 - discover more robust approaches to the overall wellbeing of the whole school community, especially to improving wellbeing among teaching staff.
According to the Welsh Government Future Generations Act 2015, teachers and school leaders should consider their own wellbeing and how this impacts the growth of their school. And when in November 2019 the Guardian newspaper reported: "Teachers are suffering from more severe psychological problems than at any point this century, experts have warned. In an alarming report, they reveal the school workforce is being pushed to breaking point"; the starting point for this project was clear. Schools in this consortium came together from across Wales to address the aspects of effective leadership and management while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of teachers and all members of the school community. We understood that by considering the wellbeing of teachers, it presented an opportunity to contemplate its direct impact on the overall welfare and success of the entire school.
