Objectives

The aims of this project were based on the need to promote and raise the profile of international languages in primary schools, to instil a love of language learning at an early age to counter the downward trend of pupils opting for modern foreign languages at GCSE-level and beyond, as a skill necessary to boost career opportunities in the future of pupils. The objectives for this project were: 1 - To prompt multicultural exchange and understanding via exposition to new and foreign realities that will lead to better knowing themselves and others. 2 - To continue providing support to teachers and schools promoting CPD opportunities, equipping teachers with adequate skills to deliver the teaching of MFL to all levels of education. 3 - To provide exciting new techniques for language learning via integrating CLIL, cultural heritage elements, and the understanding of how languages are interrelated. 4 - To increase the level of language of the own teachers, for their own CPD and careers, through collaborative approaches and good practice that will encourage them to learn/improve their skills with ease.

Background

This project aimed to prepare teachers to meet the needs of the New Curriculum for Wales and wider Welsh Government priorities to create a bilingual plus one country, with future global citizens in Wales being able to speak at least three languages. This objective is aligned with an Erasmus Plus priority about improving the teaching and learning of languages as a way to increase cultural awareness and international communication skills, offering teachers the opportunity to develop language competences in a wide number of European languages.
