Objectives

Both schools applied for funding for this training in order to train key staff in new ICT skills in readiness for the implementation of the New Curriculum for Wales, in which ‘Computational Thinking’ will become an integral part of the Digital Competence Framework. Both schools were particularly drawn to this specific training as it focused on ‘Digital Game Based Learning’ which was limited in their ICT curriculum. ‘Augmented Reality’ was also an area that had not been introduced to our curriculum. One of the main priorities that we wanted to achieve was to enable three key members of our staff to be trained in specific new ICT experiences which they could then disseminate to other staff upon their return to school.

Background

Two schools (Bigyn Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School) from Llanelli, South Wales, received separate Erasmus+ KA101 grants to participate in the ‘Digital-Game Based Learning and Augmented Reality for Schools’ training program held in Barcelona from 20th to 25th June, 2022. Three participants from each school undertook the training together. Bigyn Primary School applied for this project to upskill the ICT abilities of key staff with responsibility for the subject area. Both schools participated in the training together in order to create a professional learning partnership in which their staff could support and challenge each other to implement new curriculum focuses.
