Both schools applied for funding for this training in order to train key staff in new ICT skills in readiness for the implementation of the New Curriculum for Wales, in which ‘Computational Thinking’ will become an integral part of the Digital Competence Framework. Both schools were particularly drawn to this specific training as it focused on ‘Digital Game Based Learning’ which was limited in their ICT curriculum. ‘Augmented Reality’ was also an area that had not been introduced to our curriculum. One of the main priorities that we wanted to achieve was to enable three key members of our staff to be trained in specific new ICT experiences which they could then disseminate to other staff upon their return to school.
Two schools (St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Bigyn Primary School) from Llanelli, South Wales, received separate Erasmus+ KA101 grants to participate in the ‘Digital-Game Based Learning and Augmented Reality for Schools’ training program held in Barcelona from 20th to 25th June, 2022. Three participants from each school undertook the training together. St Mary’s Catholic Primary School applied for this project to upskill the ICT abilities of key staff with responsibility for the subject area. Both schools participated in the training together in order to create a professional learning partnership in which their staff could support and challenge each other to implement new curriculum focuses. Please note: Due to Covid travel limitations we were unable to participate in the training during the 2020/21 academic year. We applied for and were granted a 12 month extension for the project. We received formal notification of the project being extended to September 2002 from The British Council. However, the dates of this extended period have not been included on this form. The actual dates that we participated in the Barcelona training were 20 to 25th June 2022.
