In completing the application during the uncertainty of UK's continued involvement in Europe, the project was ambitious in utilising European funding to achieve the following objectives in increasing (a) employment pathways and career choices (b) further developing technical, tactical and knowledge skills linked to work readiness and employability (c) gaining some levels of recognition and potential accreditation in acknowledging achievement and (d) developing and increasing participants' soft skill learning so as to more confidently enter into job markets or continue with higher levels of learning. This being enabled through the different European experiences in which participants were able to learn by actively engaging in real-world and meaningful work environments and specific settings i.e. police and fire service activities and sports clubs and associations.
This consortium approach brought together experienced Erasmus+ VET mobility providers and newcomer to the Erasmus+ programme. The emphasis was placed on using the mobility project to target and reach participants that would most benefit from participating in work-based placements in Italian and Maltese companies that matched their course units and learning outcomes. The core purpose was to identify and provide opportunities for participants considered with fewer opportunities to extend their learning, which would aid and impact on participants' progression and attainment during their remaining college years. This linked with providing educational and social experiences associated with increased employment opportunities and a greater understanding of career pathways within the sport and public service industries. It was considered that the Italian and Maltese host providers both met and provided appropriate work based placements that offered high quality experiences and the necessary workplace training and social activities to support the participants' hard and soft skill learning. The mobility experiences sought to bring about college results moving participants beyond their expected grades and increase retention outcomes.
