Objectives

The knowledge and competences acquired through the project have a positive impact on all aspects of services that partners provide. We wanted professionals to gain first hand knowledge of what an Erasmus+ project and cross-border cooperation is, and enhance their understanding of how educational and work systems operate in different European countries. The project gave them the chance to exchange views and experiences with colleagues and share this information with more colleagues and other organisations in the UK. The course provided them with tools to enhance their teaching methods and adopt the most appropriate procedures when they provide their services to migrants. In this way, it can be ensured that their staff are equipped with the most appropriate skills to competently perform their work. We wanted the training programme to be easily adapted and tailored to changing needs so that the curriculum can also be used as a teaching and learning aid for other institutions, as it focuses on certain topics which can be re−organised according to the needs of different contexts. The curriculum was thus broad enough to provide Adult trainers with a holistic view of the field but also assist other interested parties in their work.

Background

The partners provide services to minority ethnic people (all minorities, including European minorities living in the UK) on career, education and personal development and there were some clear themes across the consortium in terms of areas for development. Each of the partners had identified organisational needs in relation to their quality development and internationalisation, wanted to expand their networks, and enhance the quality of their services. Therefore, the reason we applied for this mobility project was to provide training on aspects related to cultural diversity, which was of paramount importance to the organisations and the quality of the services they provide to the community. The project aimed to help the organisations' staff to improve their skills, make them experience different cultures and environments, and give them a chance to network with colleagues in similar roles and occupations, but from different cultures; this way, they learnt how different cultures do the same job and collaborate with each other. They had a chance to meet colleagues in other European countries and they will be able to liaise with them in the future, in areas such as volunteering and management.
