Objectives

THESE ARE THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF CURVE PROJECT: - To build on good practices in order to tackle the negative perception of migrants. - To build a better sense of community, by putting in place long-term, meaningful support, in cooperation with a range of stakeholders: local authorities, housing employment and training services, care providers, associations and inhabitants both of migrant and non-migrant background. - To have a better understanding of the concept of forced migration due to climate change and the impact climate change has on societies and the environment, and the urgency to take action to protect the most affected. - To understand the effects of migration management practices on people on the moving. How do bordering practices such as detention, push-backs and the destruction of informal camps affect displaced people’s trajectories to and across Europe. - To look at architecture as a human right and get familiar with "low budget " architectural solutions that respect dignity, protect the environment, promotes inclusion and community cohesion. - To allow our staff to gain knowledge on how to promote social inclusion and intercultural exchange among learners and groups coming from different backgrounds and cultures.

Background

CURVE project was born from the cooperation among a very diverse group of UK partners: from Universities to NGOs, CICs, arts & education organizations working at different levels on migration topics in its wider meaning that includes refugees, asylum seekers, climate and economic migrants . This includes training, research, community-based activities and spaces, legal and financial assistance, mental health support, housing, climate change effects on migration and sustainable development. The common goal of these organisations is to improve living conditions of the above groups by raising awareness of how climate change is affecting migration, and what can be done to help migrants integrate in the local communities using different means from mental health support, to architecture, arts, social media. The staff of the consortium attended a 6-day structured training in Italy, Spain or Greece during which participants learnt new skills that are helping their organizations to achieve their common goals of creating a more inclusive and informed society. The trainings offered by CURVE proved to be essential in reaching the above mentioned goals and have been having a waterfall effect on partners, participants and their networks.
