Objectives

As an organisation, we work within 4 strategic themes reflecting both our knowledge, expertise, and the types of partnerships we have developed over the last 10 years. All projects support one or more of these themes; Reducing social isolation; Employability & Entrepreneurship; Intercultural learning and Heritage; Digital media. To improve our processes, share best practice, and prepare for possible future projects and programmes, we met our main sending partners as well as some of the coordinators we work with in other countries. Knowing more about the future of the Erasmus programme and the UK's part in it (or lack of it), it was a suitable time to review our participation in international projects and discuss and plan future activities. There will be more information available about emerging thinking on the Erasmus successor programme. Naturally, Brexit was on everyone’s minds, so we created an opportunity to think freely about how we can continue our cooperation with European partners in future, whatever happened on the political level. We invited many of our most established and experienced partners to join this project, along with one or two more recent ones. The project was designed to deliver significant and sustainable practical benefits to us and our partners from Programme Country organisations, in terms of impact evaluation, process review, knowledge sharing, and forward planning. It provided valuable, constructive, and creative feedback to the National Agencies of all the countries involved and realised an excellent promotional opportunity for Erasmus + in remaining member countries. Bringing together participants from so many European countries and cultures was also a celebration of cultural diversity. For all the people participating, this was especially valuable. The project helped to develop their own active citizenship and fostered mutual understanding between them through cooperation, but it also achieved this more widely through the longer-term international project collaboration which was its main purpose. This project was a timely and relevant meeting of professionals from many parts of Europe, and its results will impact on future cooperation in inclusive volunteering, helping to ensure that in one way or another the UK stays connected to the mainstream of the European youth field.
