The project was planned to complement the curriculum offering by supporting learners to achieve their qualification and improve their employability and technical skills. SERC also planned to strengthen existing European partnerships and widen our international partner network. Our European network is central to SERC’s internationalisation strategy for student mobility post Brexit. Project Objectives 1. Develop and consolidate an increased number of strong and effective European partnerships 2. Widen learner participation in European mobility opportunities: •Further develop vocational and technical skills •Increase exposure to diverse cultural experiences •Improve language competences •Further develop personal and social competences including teamwork, communication, problem solving and self-confidence •Enhance employability/T-Skills 3. Widen staff participation in European mobility opportunities for professional development - upskilling staff in technical areas and education and industry developments to expand their teaching capabilities; gaining knowledge from learning and teaching pedagogies; and developing personal competences associated with collaborative projects such as organisation and communication skills.
SERC’s International Strategy seeks to offer learners a unique opportunity to work in an international placement thereby, further improving the technical and employability skills that will ultimately improve their CV and inspire them to consider global career opportunities. The College has recently introduced a Level 2 Enterprise & Entrepreneurship qualification for all VET learners embedding this employability approach within the curriculum. This project will align with this course and formalise the skills that learners acquire whilst on mobility. SERC’s Strategic Development Plan 2030 demonstrates the Colleges long-term commitment to internationalisation, “to develop international partnerships to enhance student, staff and business opportunities”. The project was designed to impact 182 learners from 13 curriculum areas including 12 ErasmusPro traineeships for bakery, food service and travel & tourism to widen participation and offer learners an extended opportunity to further enhance their technical and employability skills. Overall, this project planned to enable SERC to widen participation to 1 further curriculum area, 10 learners and offer long-term mobility opportunities to a further 10 students from 3 curriculum areas.
