Objectives

The project sought to deliver the key principles of the Vet Charter Application, European International development plan (EIDP) and the College's key strategic objectives: Student realisation of their potential contribution as global citizens through exposure to different cultures, work practices and the development of soft, technical and employment skills that enhance future opportunities and life choices. Help students connect their skills and experiences to international career opportunities. Maximise opportunity for social mobility and progression to higher level destinations, social cohesion and helping reduce poverty and inequality. Promote internationalism across college vocational delivery via promotion of the project results, sharing of knowledge/experience that benefit students, the college and the wider community. Development of future ECVET based mobilities that would be meaningful to an individual student’s vocational sector areas and qualification outcomes. Support the college in its internationalisation aims by developing an international strategy. Share project results and best practices through internal reports and online platforms promoting international collaboration.

Background

Leeds City College (LCC), part of Luminate Education Group, has historically run multiple successful Erasmus+ Projects and was awarded VET Charter Status in 2016. The 2020-22 project “Future Outlooks: Building Resilience and Work Skills for a Changing World” is framed within Leeds City College’s (LCC) European Internationalisation Strategy. Intentions were: Empower students to develop their skills and knowledge while promoting social mobility and fostering cultural appreciation. Create opportunities and learning experiences with an understanding of their chosen industry sector, technical competencies, critical and transferable skills. Enable social mobility for all participants, this is a key strategic priority for LCC, underpinning strategic and operational objectives, as well as being closely aligned to the aspirations of the Leeds growth initiative. Develop opportunities to partner with businesses in European countries and offer work placement opportunities for students to help learn about the culture, history and language of the host country. Recognise the importance of intercultural understanding and social integration on students’ cultural capital as they progress to employment, apprenticeships or higher education.
